Great Trees of Derbyshire Project
We have a variety of trees of all ages in Morley parish, and although many have been recorded in the Ecology Survey published a few years ago, there may well be trees of interest in the parish which have not yet been recorded.
In particular, Derbyshire Wildlife Trust are asking for help in locating veteran trees. A tree is likely to be a veteran if its circumference at 1.5m above ground level is as given below:-
1mtr. Hawthorne, Blackthorne
2.5mtr Field maple, rowan, yew, birch, holly, hazel or other small tree species
3mtr Oak ash, scot's pine, alder
4.5mtr Sycamore, limes, chestnuts, elms, poplars, beech, willows, other pines
If you know of a tree in your area, perhaps even in your garden, which you think might 'qualify' and would like to record its location, please contact Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, East Mill, Bridge Foot, Belper, Derbyshire DE56 1HX, to find out how, or email Ruth Long rlong@derbyshirewt.co.uk , or telephone 01773 881188.
Thank you
